Combative Sports Act, 2019
The purpose of this Act is to set out the legislative framework that establishes a modern system of oversight for combative sports in Ontario at both the amateur and professional level. Combative sport participants, such as promoters, contestants, managers, seconds, matchmakers and officials, are legally obligated to comply with the requirements of the Act and its regulations.
Recent Developments
July 2024: Proposed changes to Combative Sports Act, 2019
Background:
Effective January 1, 2025, individuals or businesses who apply for a license or event permit, or who currently hold a license or event permit, under the Combative Sports Act, 2019 (CSA) can appeal the orders or intended actions by the Commissioner, to the License Appeal Tribunal (LAT).

Appeals that can be submitted to LAT – General Service under the CSA, are as follows:

Refusal to issue a license or event permit.

Cancellation or suspension of a license or event permit.

Amendment of existing conditions on a license or event permit or imposition of new terms on a license or event permit.

Order for immediate suspension or cancellation of a license or event permit.
